As part of my ICT 171 assessment, I am creating a portfolio website hosted on the cloud hosting platform of Digital Ocean using their IaaS infrastructure. The main goal of this project is to showcase my skills, experience, academic progress, and professional goals online. This will help professionals and employees to assess my professional portfolio with a click. This project will also demonstrate my technical understanding of deploying a cloud server and reflect my career direction in IT, particularly cybersecurity.
My final website will feature sections like about me area, a resume downloads section, a portfolio of my completed personal and academic projects and a contact section. In the future, when I do more projects and my experiences increase, I plan to make this website a blog-style reflection and GitHub integration. This will highlight version control and collaboration with other professionals.
My website will be using lightweight frameworks and technologies. I will use a secure Apache web server and technologies like HTML and CSS-hosted digital ocean droplets. The droplets I bought from Digital Ocean are 1 GB RAM, 25 GB SSD, and 1000 GB transfer. This is the second cheapest option available by the company, enough to support moderate traffic and performance. I will configure my domain name using Namecheap, secure DNS using Digital Ocean and use Certbot with Let’s Encrypt to install an SSL/TLS certificate. This will enable my website to have HTTPS access.
In conclusion, this project is not just for my academic purpose but will be my professional asset. This portfolio can showcase my skills and share them with potential employers. Hosting the portfolio on Digital Ocean also shows my understanding of IaaS, server maintenance and security implementation.
